When a community association has been created, there are usually rules and regulations governing its operation. For example, many community associations require that members be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen, and a resident of the community.
The CMCA is designed to help members of a community association to understand how to become more financially responsible and socially conscious. It teaches them how to conduct business ethically, how to keep records properly, how to hire qualified employees, and how to provide financial support for projects that will benefit the entire community.
Because community associations are often so complex, it’s best to take the CMCA and do your community association’s certification exam before trying to manage one. Otherwise, you might end up learning a lot about the rules and regulations of the Community Association, but not the core business skills of running a successful business.
The Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) exam is a standardized test designed to determine whether or not you can meet state and/or national standards set by the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Cosmetology (NBE). The state-mandated testing agency publishes a series of tests for cosmetologists. You can either take the state tests yourself or hire a professional to administer the exam for you.
The exam is administered by several companies. The National Board of Cosmetology also administers the national credentialing system, which is similar to the state board, which helps potential employees and owners find jobs.
State-mandated certification exams are available for anyone with at least a high school diploma. You’ll have to take a series of exams to prove that you are competent to manage community associations. The exam is broken up into two parts, which covers knowledge of financial management and ethical practice.
You will have to pass the first part of the exam, and you must pass the second part of the exam in order to be certified. There are several different ways to prepare for the exam. Some people find it helpful to use an online guide. Others find it easier to read and study.
The National Board of Cosmetology also offers classes and seminars to help those who want to become certified. However, the state boards of cosmetology have their own online classes, which are typically more comprehensive.
To become certified, you must show that you are knowledgeable about community associations and have passed the state and NBE exams. If you pass both the state exams, the NBE will issue you a National Registry Card, and the state exam will certify you as a CMCA.
